I started my Martial Arts career at the Marble Factory, Walworth Road London, on the 9th Feb 1976, having left the army after four years service.
When I first started training thought I was fit, but I was in for a shock! The training was hard and intensive but I found that I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I trained religiously every Tuesday & Thursday, and also at the weekends. I took part in many Tournaments in the UK and Europe including Kukchinki Knock Down Tournaments.
Passionate about Karate, I trained every spare minute I had. No partying and very little time to socialise with friends. It may seem strange but I got a certain high from training, whether it be sparring-kata or exercise. Sensei George always pushed us to the limit, which paid off, because over a 26 year period I collected over 100 Trophies & Medals at all levels.
I also trained with Sensei Higaonna and Sensei Chinen on the European Gasshuku.
After six years training in 1982, I gained Shodan with Sensei James Rousseau and Sensei George Andrews.
In 1989 I took part in the first Chojun Mayagi Festival in the USA; I also trained in Okinawa, Japan in 2004.
